Differences Between POU & POE Filters

Water filters are becoming essential and most of the homes have a quality lead water filter. This is because the water that we get from various sources is not as clean and pure as they used to be around three or four decades ago. This is because of several reasons. The level of pollution and contamination of groundwater has gone up quite significantly. The usage and extraction of available groundwater resources and also other sources of water are becoming quite unscientific and even unsustainable. This has led to a drastic drop in the water table in many parts of the country and thickly populated cities and towns are the biggest sufferers. Given the above situation, there is no other way but to install water filtration systems in our home. When we talk about filtration systems for homes, we can classify them into two broad categories. They are POU water filtration systems and POE filtration systems. We will briefly look at each one of them so that our readers can get some ideas about both the options.

POU – Point of Use

POU systems are those which filter the water where you use it. It could be attached to an individual tap, shower or faucet. These POU systems come with filters that connect to a water line. It could be fixed under the sink, on the wall and other such places. The filters help to store filtered water in a pitcher or storage tank and you can use them as and when required with a faucet that is attached to the storage tank. Advanced POU filters allow you to directly drink filtered water from the faucet or water source to which they are attached. They are low-cost solutions for those who need only one source of filtered water. POU filters are mostly attached to individual faucets in the kitchen are useful for cooking and supplying drinking water to all the inhabitants of the home.

POE – Point of Entry

The point of entry filtration systems is also known as total filtration systems or whole-home filtration solutions. These filtration systems are attached to the main water supply line for the entire home or at the place where water enters the home before it is branched out to various other places like bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, showers and other such places.

Which Is The Better Option – POU or POE?

There cannot be a straight-jacketed, yes or no type of answer for the above question. Both systems are unique and have their pros, cons, and versatilities. It depends on the specific needs of the customers and also depends on the main objectives and goals of having a water filter. If you are keen on getting pure and filtered drinking and cooking water for your kitchen, then you could choose a POU water filter and attach it to your kitchen faucet.

On the other hand, if your house has unique and different water challenges, or if you want filtered water supply even in your bathroom and toilets, then it is quite obvious that a POE filtration system would be the best choice.

Many homes use a combination of POU and POE options because both of them have benefits for them in their respective areas.
